Description
Fairy Lace was inspired by the artworks and designs indicative of the art nouveau movement. Art Nouveau was most popular from 1890 – 1910. It was often inspired by natural forms such as the sinuous curves of plants and flowers. One major objective of Art Nouveau was to break down the traditional distinction between fine arts (especially painting and sculpture) and applied arts. It was most widely used in interior design, graphic arts, furniture, glass art, textiles, ceramics, metal work, and jewelry. In true Art Nouveau fashion the inspiration behind my chosen design is Polypore Mushrooms. To highlight the natural beauty of a polypore formation, I have chosen the Art Nouveau style similar to Alphonse Mucha. Polypores are a group of fungi that form large fruiting bodies with gills on the underside. Most polypores inhabit tree trunks or branches consuming the wood, but some soil-inhabiting species form interconnected systems with trees. Polypores play a very significant role in the nutrient cycling and carbon dioxide production of forest ecosystems. There are over a thousand known species of polypores but many have yet to be discovered. Polypores are much more diverse in old natural forests with abundant dead wood than in plantations or younger managed forests. Due to logging and deforestation a number of species have declined drastically and are under threat of extinction.
- This design has been paired with a premium grade Moldavite gemstone. Moldavite is rarer and more expensive than most gemstones because it is actually a rare variety of extraterrestrial mineraloid formed by the impact of a meteor 15 MILLION years ago! Due to being extensively mined since the 1800s, Moldavite is very quickly approaching depletion— so get it while you still can! It is neither technically glass nor crystal because it contains minerals but no crystalline structure, making it a special class called mineraloid.
