Fairy Lace was inspired by the artworks and designs indicative of the art nouveau movement. Art Nouveau was most popular from 1890 – 1910. It was often inspired by natural forms such as the sinuous curves of plants and flowers. One major objective of Art Nouveau was to break down the traditional distinction between fine arts (especially painting and sculpture) and applied arts. It was most widely used in interior design, graphic arts, furniture, glass art, textiles, ceramics, metal work, and jewelry. In true Art Nouveau fashion the inspiration behind my chosen design is Polypore Mushrooms. To highlight the natural beauty of a polypore formation, I have chosen the Art Nouveau style similar to Alphonse Mucha. Polypores are a group of fungi that form large fruiting bodies with gills on the underside. Most polypores inhabit tree trunks or branches consuming the wood, but some soil-inhabiting species form interconnected systems with trees. Polypores play a very significant role in the nutrient cycling and carbon dioxide production of forest ecosystems. There are over a thousand known species of polypores but many have yet to be discovered. Polypores are much more diverse in old natural forests with abundant dead wood than in plantations or younger managed forests. Due to logging and deforestation a number of species have declined drastically and are under threat of extinction.
- This design has been paired with a stunning set of Green Tourmaline butterfly wings carved by a master artisan and a rare Black Australian Opal. Tourmaline is one of the most expensive and desired materials. In particular, Green and Blue Tourmaline is copper-bearing which makes it even more valuable. Green Tourmaline is thought to be the embodiment of vitality, courage, and strength. It is believed to enhance the heart chakra greatly and is used to connect with the spirit of nature. The Full Metal Rollerball Necklace is inspired by my love and knowledge of Historical Jewelry, specifically the Victorian Chatelaine. The concept of a Rollerball Necklace or perfume vessel jewelry dates back all the way to ancient Romans. It was later revived and popularized during the Victorian era, worn on what was called a Chatelaine. A Chatelaine was a piece of jewelry with small chains suspending various small tools. These were not just any tools but rather extremely elaborate and decorative pieces; typically thimbles, scissors, notebooks, pencils, and vessels for perfume oils. The most commonly found perfume bottles were either made entirely from metal or encased in metal. It should be noted that all rollers are easily removed from their bottles and many customers have opted to use their necklaces for keepsakes, specimens, and memorials. You can seal your bottles with wax, cork, rubber, or any other seal of your choosing! Your glass will remain forever safe in its metal casing.
Princess Rollerball Necklaces are my original classic design. They are one of my most customizable designs because they fit any size bottle and are even interchangeable with any Bead and Bones Full Metal bottles you may have already collected. These feature stunning Druzy Agates, cores of agate topped with crystalline clusters. The Druzy Agates in Green Fairy have clear Quartz crystal clusters with gray and green Agate banding. Each has been mounted with a decorative bezel and matching Peridot Swarovski crystals.
Charmed Ones feature charms and castings collected from small artisanal shops and are made with solid sterling silver. This rollerball necklace incorporates an adorable realistic mushroom casting.
The Artwork & Crystals in the Green Fairy collection can be read about in detail here.
Rollerball Necklaces are coupled with a sterling silver chain that is customized to your preferred length. Chains feature a .925 diamond cut. Necklaces arrive with a roller since oils are the most common use but are entirely optional. You can fill your bottles with whatever you like! Many customers have opted to use their necklaces for keepsakes, specimens, or memorials. Bottles are photographed with an inert carrier for demonstration only, essential oils are not included. Rollerball necklaces are refillable and coupled with a refill/care kit. If you would like to purchase more bottles in other sizes or colors find glass bottles here or consider adding extra crystal energy with a gemstone roller bottle here.
