Antique Apothecary – Potion | Kunzite Rollerball Necklace

The Poison Bottles are inspired by the elaborate labels often used by Victorian Apothecaries. This year features Love, Potion, Poison, and Tears to embody both the bitter and the sweet sides of Valentine’s day. The Tears bottle is a play on the alleged Victorian Lachrymose jars. A Lachrymose jar was supposedly a glass vessel used to catch tears, sometimes called a Tear Catcher. Mourning jewelry was highly sought after during this time, however, typical mourning wear of this era was hair jewelry of intricately woven patterns made from treated hair of a loved one passed. There is absolutely no historical documentation that Lachrymose jars were ever actually used. The origins of this myth can be traced to an antiques dealer in the 1920’s who branded several cases of elaborate Victorian-era scent bottles as “Lachrymose Jars,” a reference to an ancient Roman tradition of filling small clay pots with tears of the mourners to leave in the burial mound. Modern testing has since revealed that these bottles were no more than beautiful Victorian perfume bottles, but are still considered highly collectable nonetheless!

Phantom Quartz within the Forest Witch collection have exceptional spectral phantoms, have haunting white inclusions, and hand curated from the Denver Gem Show. I am proud to support several talented stone cutters, lapidaries, and family owned mines during the production of my artwork. Phantom Quartz form when minerals wash over the crystal during its development. As it grows, it leaves a “phantom” of its old form behind, giving these unique crystals their inclusions. As a member of the quartz family, Phantom Quartz works within all chakras and is considered both a stone of growth, transformation, and evolution. Meditating with Phantom Quartz is thought to invoke peace and healing.

The crystal featured on this Rollerball Necklace is Kunzite. Crystals and stones found within my collections are premium-quality specimens curated by artisanal lapidaries and family operated mines. These crystals were curated especially for my rollerball necklaces.

Kunzite within the Love Witch collection are exceptionally rich in shades of pastel pink and lavender. These Kunzite have been cut and polished by artisans to achieve their beautiful crystalline shape. Kunzite itself is considered rare and finding it cut into miniature points is even more rare! Kunzite is considered to be a fairly young stone, having not been discovered until 1902 by a Tiffany and Co. mineralogist, George Frederick Kunz. It is for Dr. Kunz that Kunzite is named after. While its gentle nature and feminine color scheme may seem whimsical, Kunzite is one of the strongest crystals for dispelling negativity and fortifying healing love energy. Kunzite is found in many shades – it can be colorless or it can be soft and shimmering in shades of pink and lilac or even soft lemon yellow and green. According to metaphysical beliefs, Kunzite is a stone deeply connected to the heart and love. Kunzite is thought to connect the heart with the mind, encouraging communion between the two. In metaphysical terms, Kunzite is believed to help heal heartache, calm nerves, and enhance our ability to experience and reciprocate love. While Kunzite is not a traditional gemstone, some people have adopted the pinkish stone as a birthstone alternative for February.
